Did you know that Alf was Hungarian?

So, I have been having another bout of insomnia. I slept 1 hour last night. And when you sleep 1 hour, the next day you feel funky and you start doing things like typing "famous insomniacs" into Google to find out where your head (correction: you are headed, just wanted to leave a trace of the effects of nearly 40 straight hours of consciousness. Anyway, for me, it looks like it will be world domination (Napoleon, Churchill), a pill overdose (Marilyn, Elvis), or an MTV reality show about my life and my fat kids (Ozzy Osbourne).

But the most important thing to come out of this search is this great Web site dedicated to Budapest called Pesticide. I have no idea how I ended up there.

It's a blog/webzine type thing edited by Canadian expats in Hungary. I believe they used the term "All-Hungarian Techno Hamster" to refer to themselves. But I am a bit blurry-eyed and definitely slap happy after my 12 hour workday on 1 hour of sleep, 2 coffees and a slice of lemon pie. Mmmm, lemon pie.

Anyway, click on the Worst of Budapest. It will make you laugh.

My blog sickens me

I haven't been posting. Why? Well, I believe I am suffering from what the Nonist calls a mid-blog crisis. It is described in their pamphlet Blog Depression.

I have all the symptoms. The thought of spending my leisure time glued to a computer abhors me. I have to be too careful with my blog (don't tell me I shouldn't be...it is not a choice. There are too many people I care about for complete honesty to ever be an option on such a public forum).

I am not sure that a blog is the best format for me to use my creativity at this moment. I need to rethink it. Rethinking it makes me nauseous. It could be a while.

What do I do with my pithy amounts of spare time. I have been reading a lot (La Sorcière by Marie Ndiaye, The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman, House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski). Becoming a Gran Turismo star. Playing the oboe. Writing non-blog appropriate nonsense.

I can't promise I will write a lot. If something interesting comes out of my private efforts I will post them. But I don't like the limitations of the public forum. I need to germinate a little in private.

Please forgive me.

I will still try to publish some photos from my trip.
